A Glimpse into His Remarkable Journey

Early Life and Amateur Career

Jermell DeAvante Charlo, also known as “Iron Man”, and his identical twin brother, Jermall, bearing the nickname “Hit Man”, share a unique bond in the world of boxing. While they were born in Lafayette, Louisiana, their journey to stardom unfolded in the vibrant city of Houston, Texas. Here, their father, Kevin, a former amateur boxer, had a grand vision for his sons – one that would provide them with a positive, disciplined environment.

As youngsters, the Charlo twins ventured into various sports, including football and basketball, typical for kids their age. Yet, it was the sweet science of boxing that truly captured their hearts. Jermell, in particular, wasted no time in making his mark as an amateur. At the astonishing age of 15, with just two years of boxing experience, he clinched a bronze medal at the prestigious 2005 junior Olympics.

This early success laid the foundation for an extraordinary journey. With an amateur record boasting 56 wins and 8 losses, Jermell decided to take the plunge into the world of professional boxing. At a mere 17 years old, in the winter of 2007, he embarked on a path that would ultimately lead him to the pinnacle of the sport.

Meanwhile, Jermall, his twin brother, chose to continue his amateur endeavors, harboring aspirations of representing his country at the 2008 Olympics. The Charlo twins had embarked on separate yet parallel journeys, each destined to leave an indelible mark in the world of boxing.
