Amir Khan to fight Manny Pacquiao as boxers agree on terms over clash in Britain in May

“Pacquiao set for clash with former training partner Khan on May 20 with Manchester or Bolton likely venue”

Former training partners Khan and Pacquiao are understood to have agreed terms to face each other in Britain in what would be one of the most eagerly-anticipated fights of the year.

Khan has been pushing for a career defining clash with either Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather for years and now looks to have finally got his wish.

And according to The Times, the pair will go head-to-head later this year with the Manchester Arena or Bolton’s Macron Stadium the venue to host the bout.

Khan has not fought since he was knocked out challenging Saul Alvarez for the WBC middleweight title in Las Vegas last May.

Since then the 30-year-old has taken time off to recover from an operation to repair a damaged hand – which Khan revealed to The Sun meant he had been fighting with a broken bone for 13 years.

But after looking for a high profile match to greet his return top the ring, it seems he may have come up trumps with about against the popular Filipino.

Talks took place with promoter Eddie Hearn over a huge all-British clash with Kell Brook but no deal could be agreed amid claims Khan was holding out for too much money.

Now it seems the former world light-welterweight champion will get the A-list opponent he has been searching for in the shape of Pacquiao.

Verbal agreements have been reached between both camps, with just official contracts now needing to be signed.

And though at 38 Pacquaio is no longer at the peak of his powers, he is still regarded as one of the sport’s biggest names and getting him to fight in the UK will be a huge attraction to British boxing fans.

He has been crowned world champion across eight divisions and is regarded as one of the greatest fighters boxing has ever seen.

Last November he was crowned WBO welterweight champion when he cruised to a comfortable unanimous decision to beat Jessi Vargas in Vegas.

Khan and Pacquiao know each other well after their time working together under Freddie Roach in Hollywood, when they sparred hundreds of rounds together.

At the time Roach insisted they would not fight each other, but Khan’s switch to work under Virgil Hunter in 2012 has made the bout possible.

Weight issues aside, Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. ready for tough fight

How much would Alvarez, who has been boxing at 154 and 155 pounds, be willing to go up in weight? And how much would Chavez, who has been fighting between 168 and 172 in recent years (and struggling badly to make it), be willing to come down?

They finally settled on a catchweight of 164.5 pounds, with significant financial penalties if either misses weight, for their 12-round fight on May 6 (HBO PPV, 9 p.m. ET) — Cinco de Mayo weekend — at the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas.

So on Monday, when the fighters and their teams kicked off a four-city, two-country media tour/fan fest to promote the bout, thousands of fans and hundreds of media showed up for the kickoff event in Mexico City. Naturally, the weight issue was a hot topic of discussion, as was the meaning of the fight to Mexican fans.

De La Hoya: Canelo Would Beat Mayweather ‘Easy’ in Rematch!

If Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) is looking for a massive pay-per-view fight – then Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya sees only one option – Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs).

Back in 2013 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Mayweather dominated Canelo over twelve rounds for a decision win. Their pay-per-view broke several revenue records and generated 2.2 million purchases on pay-per-view.

Since that fight, Mayweather – who turns 40 – retired in September of 2015, but he’s teased on more than one occasion of a potential comeback.

Canelo has won six in a row and two world titles since that loss, and faces Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on May 6th from Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. If a rematch were to happen, De La Hoya is confident that Canelo would not only avenge his only career defeat – but he would do it with complete ease.

“If Floyd wants to have a big fight, a huge fight, the only guy he could fight is Canelo Alvarez,” De La Hoya said to Sports Illustrated. “And I guarantee you, I believe in my heart of hearts that Canelo would probably beat him easy, maybe even knock him out”?.

Mayweather has only been mentioning one possible opponent as of late, UFC superstar Conor McGregor – a fight that De La Hoya believes will never be allowed to happen. De La Hoya says the UFC will never grant permission to their biggest company superstar to take part in a boxing match, where he is likely going to be dominated from bell to bell.

“That’ll never happen,” De La Hoya said. “The UFC will never allow it. It just will not happen. Why would they let the biggest star, McGregor, go up in the ring just straight boxing? Mayweather would probably outclass him. It would be a boring boxing match. Easy as that. Why would the UFC allow that?

WHO IS NEXT FOR MANNY?

We all saw the fight this Saturday November 5th between Jessie Vargas and Manny Pacquiao that happened in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the beginning we saw that Jessie was a little bit nervous and slow or maybe getting he was trying to get the rhythm and speed that Manny has. In round 4th we saw a more confident Jessie with some great punches and better movement that made the crowd get excited to see the response of Manny Pacquiao.

All fans were excited to see if Manny still has it and if the called ‘‘underdog’’ Jessie Vargas could beat a champion of 8 different divisions and with 10 years of age more than him. As final result Manny Pacquiao won by unanimous decision, and now he is the new WBO world welterweight champion and we can see that he has no intentions to retire like he said a few months ago on his previous fight.

But now the question that everybody is asking and thinking about…Who will be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent?

After the fight in an interview they asked him if maybe Terrance Crawford who was on the crowd, but also they mentioned Floyd Mayweather who was on the front row, obviously we all get excited by the thought that maybe a rematch could happen between this two great fighters, Manny just responded to every question that he didn’t know who could be his next opponent.

The final decision will ultimately be Mayweather’s , whether they have a rematch or the don’t. Would you like to see a rematch? There is a few more names on the list like:

Vasyl Lomachenko, Danny Garcia, Keith Thurma, Kell Brook or Amir Khan. Who do you think should be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent?
