Who is next for Andre Ward?

We just saw the rematch between Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev, their previous fight was named the best fight of the year and a complete pound for pound fight. In this rematch Ward scored and amazing eight round TKO win over Sergey Kovalev, some people say he showed more power than the first fight where he won by a close unanimous decision. He landed some amazing body shots but finally in the eighth round a decisive punch got Kovalev in trouble.

But now..what is next for Andre Ward?

He is already the best in his category, according to him he could move to cruiserweight  or even heavyweight. Another option is to unify the title and fight Adonis Stevenson who holds another belt in his weight class. Adonis Stevenson already challenged Ward to get the title unified, this is a fight a lot of fans would like to see. Who do you think Andre Ward should fight next?

After watching his fight with Jeff Horn in Australia we are all asking ourselves what should Manny Pacquiao do? Do you think he needs to retire? That maybe at 38 years old he doesn’t have the same power anymore?

Manny Pacquiao accepted his defeat and lost of the WBO title, but recently he requested to the WBO a review of  the refereeing and judging of the bout. “I love boxing, and I don’t want to see it dying because of unfair decision and officiating,” -Manny Pacquiao

The trainers of Manny Pacquiao say that the referee didn’t took the correct decisions by not stopping some head clashes that actually made two cuts to Pacquiao’s hair line and making him need stitches. What will happen with the request? For the moment we don’t know. What we do know is that the fight contract had a  rematch clause meaning that Manny Pacquiao could negotiate to fight Horn again before the end of the year.

BASIC BOXING PUNCHES

Learning the basic boxing punches is really important, you might think the point in boxing is just landing a punch however you want to throw it, but boxing actually haves rules and that´s why they are many types of punches and combos that you can learn and practice.

  1. Left jab: This punch is a shot in a straight line coming out basically from your chin. The power of the punch should come from your shoulders, is a really quick move but it can cause a lot of damage to your opponent.
  2. Right cross: When you throw this punch all your upper body must turn towards your opponent but without stepping down your chin guard at all times, usually is used followed by other punches or a combo.
  3. Left or right hook: This punch requires speed and power, usually used when the opponent has exposed himself and you can surprise him with a powerful left or right hook. You raise your elbow and you punch right across.
  4. Uppercut: This is a classic, the punch should be done quickly. You rotate your fist, bent your elbow, slightly dip at the waist and punch upward. Don’t lose your guard because your opponent can take advantage of that, you are extremely vulnerable.

Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame announces newest class

The Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame announced its 14-person class of inductees Wednesday, headlined by Thomas Hearns, Leon Spinks and Michael Spinks.

Also announced as inductees by Boxing Hall of Fame, Hall CEO/president Michelle Corrales-Lewis, were Michael Carbajal, Erik Morales and Salvador Sanchez, among the greats to be honored Aug. 12 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Hearns was chosen in the non-Nevada resident boxer category, along with Michael Spinks, Morales, Michael Carbajal, women’s boxing star Lucia Rijker and Salvador Sanchez. Elected in the Nevada resident boxer category are Ken Norton, Leon Spinks and Richie Sandoval.

Chosen in the non-boxer category were referee Davey Pearl, public relations specialist Debbie Munch, promoter Mel Greb, trainer/cut man Rafael Garcia and Nevada Athletic Commission chair Dr. Elias Ghanem.

Norton, Sanchez, Greb and Ghanem will be inducted posthumously.

The members of the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame’s fifth-induction class will be honored at a gala dinner at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Aug. 12.

“We are very proud of this class of inductees, and it contains some of the greatest fighters who ever lived,” Corrales-Lewis said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to our gala dinner when we can honor these richly deserving people and allow their fans to say hello.”

Hearns was one of the standouts during the 1980s and participated in a series of great bouts in Las Vegas with Leonard, Hagler and Duran. His 1985 bout with Hagler at Caesars Palace is still regarded by many as the greatest fight in boxing history.

The Spinks brothers, Michael and Leon, become the first set of brothers inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame. Both won gold medals for the U.S. at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and then went on to win world titles in the pros.

Norton, known primarily for a series of close bouts with the legendary Muhammad Ali, also competed in one of the great heavyweight title bouts ever. He lost the WBC title by a razor-thin decision to Larry Holmes in 1978, among the finest heavyweight championship fights ever held.

Pearl was among the best referees of all-time and worked more than 70 championship bouts. He was the referee for both Leon Spinks’ shocking 1978 upset of Ali as well as for Leonard’s dramatic 14th-round knockout of Hearns in 1981.

Michael Carbajal is known as the first junior flyweight to earn a $1 million purse. He won world titles at junior flyweight and flyweight. Known as “Little Hands of Stone” for his punching power, Carbajal was 49-4 with 33 KOs.
