Halloween is a time when everybody brings out their inner child, dresses up, and binges on sugary candy. Professional boxers are no exception when it comes to celebrating this fun-filled holiday. Check out some of the most memorable Halloween costumes worn by top world boxers!

In 2011, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. shared a picture of him wearing a redhead wig while punching a friend of his. Chavez Jr. explained on his caption that he was dressed as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez punching Ulises “Archie” Solis. After many laughs and some backlash, Chavez Jr. dressed as the Green Lantern later that night.

Perhaps one of the most unforgettable press conferences in the world of boxing was Tyson Fury’s 2015 interview promoting his fight against Wladimir Klitschko. Fury arrived wearing a Batman costume and a man dressed as the Joker walked in with him only to get kicked out by “Tyson Batman” himself. When asked where the idea came from, Fury replied, “Who knows? But if that doesn’t sell tickets, I don’t know what will.”

Floyd “Money” Mayweather is without a doubt, hands-down, the greatest boxer to have ever dressed up for Halloween. Mayweather hasn’t missed a beat in at least five years when it comes to costumes, starting his streak by rocking a Freddy Krueger outfit alongside infamous actress Lindsay Lohan, who dressed up as a dead bride. A year later, in 2014, Floyd and his friends sported jogging suits to emulate old-school hip-hop group RUN DMC.

The undefeated boxer’s attire choices for Halloween started to get a bit more unique in 2015, wearing a custom-made “Dead Presidents” costume with his face painted all white, and of course, surrounded by loads of cash. Floyd was Iron Man the following year, and perhaps his strangest costume of all was his 2017 Sylvester the Cat fit, followed by a gladiator and the Riddler. He will, without a doubt, attempt to top his previous costumes this year.

Boxers all around the world love the spotlight and Halloween gives them a platform to exploit their fame by transforming themselves into something else. As social media continues to grow, boxers will undoubtedly keep dressing up to show off for their fans. Let’s hope this year gives us a lot to talk about when it comes to the best costumes worn by our favorite fighters in the world.

Fight Between Canelo Triple GGG You Didn’t Know About

Before their September 15th fight last year, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin had already faced each other on a previous occasion. The sparring bout occurred in 2011 when Canelo was preparing to fight Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

The Ring Magazine was present for the sparring session that summer day in Big Bear, California, and reported how both fighters landed strong punches from the very first round. Canelo finished the round with a massive blow on GGG, but the Kazakhstani boxer just laughed it off.

When they started the second, Golovkin came back stronger, landing a heavy hook to Alvarez’s liver. Triple G continued to dominate throughout the third and fourth round, with Canelo failing to throw any jabs and forgetting to bob and weave.

Whenever the Mexican boxer tried hitting his opponent, Golovkin effectively dodged and blocked the punches, and countered intelligently. Canelo’s tactic kept worsening throughout the fight, unable to land anything and his face reddening from GGG’s punches.

By the fifth round, Alvarez appeared to be tired, circling the ring with his back against the ropes. At this point, Canelo started throwing jabs again, but Triple G’s counter-hooks were too constant and powerful for the Mexican.

The sixth and final round saw Alvarez catch his second wind, staying on his toes and connecting quick 1-2 combos. After Canelo connected a firm uppercut and a solid hook, GGG started to throw combinations of his own, finishing the last minute of the fight with both fighters throwing punches relentlessly.

This 2011 bout was a glimpse at what the world would witness six years later, a close head-to-head between two fighters of high caliber. Although the 2017 fight between the two ended in a stalemate, their upcoming rematch will hopefully give the fans a proper winner.

Conor McGregor Shows Off Cleto Reyes Gloves During Training

Conor McGregor is notorious for being a fan of Cleto Reyes boxing gloves and of Mexican culture overall. Before his fight against Floyd Mayweather, he praised the handmade Mexican gloves and even laughed at Mayweather’s fear of the lighter glove.

McGregor recently made his love for Mexican boxing gloves evident once again, sharing a picture of him with a big pair of Cleto Reyes gloves during training. He also said the McGregors love Mexico, especially since his son was born on Cinco de Mayo.

“Working in the big Mexican gloves today,” wrote McGregor. “Made from either cowhide or goatskin, and stuffed with horsehair, they are a lovely weighty glove, and known globally as the ‘punchers glove.'”

He went on to talk about how some boxing contests ban the Cleto Reyes glove “because of lack of bottle.” McGregor also reminded fans that “Muhammad Ali was a big fan of these gloves” and how Ali’s fondness of the glove brought Cleto Reyes to the forefront of boxing equipment.

The Irishman admitted that although he prefers his 4oz MMA gloves, and that he didn’t know about Cleto Reyes until starting his pro career, he does “enjoy the fit and the feel of this [Cleto Reyes] glove.” McGregor ended his message of support for Cleto Reyes by reminding everyone that Mexicans and the Irish are very similar.

“The Mexicans are of a strong breed. Just like the Irish,” he wrote. “I have a lot of respect for Mexico. My son was also born on Cinco de Mayo. Mexico, the McGregors love you!” Perhaps the best comparison, though, was when he explained how tequila, just like whiskey, “puts hair on your chest.”

“Tequila, another phenomenal Mexican-made product,” wrote McGregor. “Just like my Irish whiskey, it is for the powerful, and the driven. There is an Irish saying that our whiskey ‘will put hairs on your chest.’ It is why there is a big gorilla on mine.”

Thank you for all the love, Conor!
